In a few days all of our favorite
players will take the field in their home parks to start off a very
different new year. This year will be a season of change.
No longer will there be whispers and rumors about
steroid use. Instead, the whispers and rumors will be about who
was on steroids. What’s going to happen when Barry Bonds breaks Hank
Aaron’s record of 755 career home runs? To asterisk or not to
asterisk? That’s something we’ll let Bud Selig sweat over. As for
me? I couldn’t care less. The way I see it, anyone in MLB could have
been using. That’s including the pitchers who served up way too many
high and tight ones that ended up in McCovey Cove.
One thing that Boston won’t be
sad to see go is the shouts of the Yankee devotees, chanting the
popular tune, “1918!” I guess they’ll pick up something new like,
“26-5!” (as in World Series titles for each team). They’re so good
with numbers aren’t they? The BoSox do, in fact, have a lot of
catching up to do. But for right now, I think they’ll be content as
the reigning World Series Champions.
And, oh yes, the Expos have been
kidnapped from Canada. If anyone has seen them, please let Montreal
know. They might be worried sick. |
