Historic night. Longest All-Star Game ever. AL gets home field advantage – again.
Yeah, yeah. Nice and touching moments from MLB’s All-Star Game last night, which really didn’t end until this morning. But I’m more interested in the tidbits that didn’t take place on the field. You know, those special moments when sport crosses celebrity and even hits on gay. Or at least gay-fav celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna.
So here goes.
Parker joined MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and Sheryl Crow in a pre-game ceremony to promote “Stand Up to Cancer,” a campaign to raise money for cancer research. That led to speculation about Parker’s famous mole. Really. Ever-present on her chin, it was gone from photos snapped at the All-Star Game.
Yogi Berra had this to say about Parker: “She wasn’t bad.”

Crow was also present to sing the National Anthem. And apparently to be wooed by Alex Rodriguez, the slugging manwhore who received the most All-Star ballots, despite a pending divorce and “friendship” with Madonna. Big Papi even teased A-Rod about the “friendship,” shouting to him from a nearby locker during a pre-game interview, “No more talking about Madonna please.”
Not bothered by the media feeding frenzy surrounding his relationships with women, A-Rod took a break from batting practice to step into the stands and talk to the crooner. The two posed for photos and later, A-Rod sent an intermediary to have Crow sign a baseball.
A-Rod had to be quick, though. After being pulled from the game in the fifth, he bolted Yankee Stadium and was likely in a bed before the game wrapped after 1 a.m. He didn’t, though, leave with Madonna.
She flip-flopped on attending the game, first saying she was in and ultimately not showing. A-Rod didn’t miss a beat, instead focusing his interest on Crow. New friend? Maybe. But you’d think Crow would have learned a lesson or two from her rocky relationship with another pro jock, Lance Armstrong. –Matt Hennie
