chargers_lt.jpgRiding my bike through Times’ Square yesterday, I noticed a bunch of people holding signs that said “Vote LT in 08.” I first wondered what third-party candidate was trying to get traction waving signs in the faces of tourists from Iowa. Being in New York, I then thought of Lawrence Taylor. Knowing he was already well-placed in the NFL Hall of Fame, I figured it was a stunt for some faux ESPN or Sports Illustrated “contest.” Close.

It was for LaDainian Tomlinson, campaigning heartily to be the consensus #1 fantasy football draft pick this season. And it wasn’t ESPN by foxsports.com’s fantasy offerings that were behind it. You gotta hand it to the guy, he was all over the media “campaigning.”

Right now, he is #1 on most draft boards. Antsports.com’s mock drafts, which I use to check general public fantasy sentiment, has him followed by Adrian Peterson at #2, with Steven Jackson, Brian Westbrook and Joseph Addai rounding out the top five. Only the first three and Tom Brady got any sniffs with the top pick. My #1 right now? In a 12-team league, it’d be Tomlinson; in a 10-team league, I’d be tempted to take Brady.

It’s still a few weeks before any fantasy football drafts, but it’s in the air! -Cyd Zeigler jr.
