russert-angel.jpgIt’s that time of the summer when I start listening to about a half dozen fantasy football podcasts, including the FootballGuys. On their Thursday podcast, a Bills fan called in and had this to say about the deceased fellow Bills fan Tim Russert:

"I gotta think this year, if the Bills have a close game, or maybe they get a bounce at the end of a game or an interception happens, or they catch a touchdown at the end of a game, or maybe a field goal goes in off the crossbar, that he’s got something to do with it, because, you know, we’ve got that twelfth man upstairs, he’s going to have the best seat in the house."

I totally get people talking about their deceased family members and friends still watching the games from “their big recliner in heaven.” But actually reaching down and knocking a field goal in or tipping a pass in mid-air? It’s amazing what people will convince themselves of; and don't doubt for a second that, if it happens this season, the Buffalo News headline won't read, "Thanks Tim!" Do you suppose he’ll have to arm-wrestle the spirit of some 95-year-old Browns fan who’s still waiting for his team’s first Super Bowl title? –Cyd Zeigler jr.
