Minor league teams are always looking for gimmics to draw in fans. So when the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters decided to play one of their games as a benefit for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, it must have been met with box office cheers. And even better, the home team would wear pink jerseys and they'd even dye the ice pink for the game. What fun!
Insert chemistry 101 here. By adding the dye, the arena lowered the freezing temperature of the water, making the now-soft ice unplayable. The game was called after the first period. There goes the rainbow-colored ice I was hoping for for Gay Pride!
Hat tip to Fark.
