There is a real soccer catfight going down in South America between two soccer legends, Pele of Brazil and Maradona of Argentina.
Pele, 68, recently claimed (and later backtracked) that two Brazilian stars, Ronaldo and Robinho, used drugs and that Maradona, 48, Argentina's coach, is a bad role model because of his well-documented history of drug use. Maradona fired back in that tried-and-true way by claiming Pele has had sex with men (since we all know gay is worse than drug abuser in the eyes of many jocks). As Goal.com reports:
The Argentine coach was asked for his thoughts on these statements at a press conference
... and did not twist his words when responding.
"What do you want me to say? He debuted (lost his virginity) with a lad (a man)," is what the coach is reported to have said by a host of sources, including Marca.
Brazil and Argentina are natural rivals in all things, especially soccer. and Pele and Maradona are said to hate each other. Maradona has angered Pele in the past with charges that he has sex with men.
It is not the first time the two players -- regarded by many as the best of all time -- have clashed publicly over Pele's sexuality. In 2000 the Brazilian blamed Maradona for spreading worldwide rumors of an affair with a coach. In his autobiography Pele denied the story that he had confessed to a gay affair with a coach at his Brazilian club Santos.
I had not known that Pele has been a spokesman for Pfizer, makers of Viagra, in alerting men about erectile dysfunction. I am surprised Maradona didn't make a crack about that.
