The Hollywood Reporter says that West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin is going to take a shot at a draft of a script for Moneyball, the Columbia Pictures film that, if it ever gets made, would star Brad Pitt as Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane. The film was previously put in "turnaround" status by the studio because of unhappiness with the prior script. As a result, Steven Soderbergh is no longer involved with the production, although Pitt remains.

Sorkin has worked in the sports realm previously, having created the series Sports Night for ABC. The show about an ESPN-like sports network was critically acclaimed but low-rated and short-lived, so it was sort of successful but ultimately not so great…just like the A's and their "Moneyball" strategy, I guess.
