We’ve reported in the past about the intense homophobia of many soccer fans in Serbia, and their hatred has claimed another victim. The gay-pride parade that was supposed to celebrate gay people in Belgrade on Sunday was canceled because so many groups of soccer fans had announced they would be attacking people in the parade and the police officers trying to protect them. The organisers and city authorities feared a repeat of eight years ago, when Belgrade's first ever gay parade had to be abandoned half-way through due to widespread violence by an angry mob of protesters.
