For anyone who has tossed a Frisbee on the beach, or admired someone who did, the inventor of the plastic disc died this week at the age of 90. Fred Morrison’s creation was to me one of the great sports inventions of the last 100 years. I have played Ultimate for almost 20 years, and I attribute Ultimate with helping me come out (I met the first guy I undeniably loved playing Ultimate at UCLA in 1996). I’ve long lamented that there aren’t more gay Ultimate teams, but that’s probably because Ultimate players tend to be really gay-friendly anyway.

Fred, today we raise a disc (full of beer) to you!
