Rangers drop Sean Avery, assign him to minor league club

The NHL career of Sean Avery is in limbo after he was cut by the New York Rangers and assigned to the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League. His agent said Avery was considering playing in Europe if he did not join the Whale.

We've been big fans of Avery for all the stands he has taken in support of gay rights. On the ice, many consider him nothing but a thug, but he has been spot on when it comes to speaking out against homophobia.

Avery, 31, was cut by the Rangers, who said they simply had better players. It remains to be seen whether he will be claimed at any point this season by an NHL team. If not, he can always go into fashion, one of his loves.
