British Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone has told Members of Parliament the government is actively trying to make the atmosphere in British soccer more gay-friendly. In commenting on the significance of the coming out of rugby's Gareth Thomas and cricket's Steven Davies in the last 14 months she said:

Obviously it is very important and we look forward to working with the Football Association to create an atmosphere and ambience where footballers also feel free to come forward and come out if they wish.

Not just for the sake of the league and themselves but also for the sake of youngsters all over the country who should be able to play on any field of sport free of any kind of discrimination.

Surely the coming out of Swedish soccer rising star Anton Hysen will spur them even further to take action.
