Openly gay professional soccer player David Testo has been nominated for a position on the U.S. Soccer Athlete Council. The Council represents the interests of athletes in U.S. Soccer. Testo told Outsports he accepted the nomination. He said:

I would be honored to work with those great people and players and hopefully make a difference for the gay community in soccer and those athletes that might be struggling.

There are 19 positions on the Council plus a committee chair and staff liaison. A total of 18 spots are up for election, with 21 people nominated for a spot, with only eight up for re-election. Hopefully the voters will see fit to include the only publicly out male player running for a spot on the Council.
