Jack Taylor of Division III Grinnell College in Iowa scored 138 points (not a typo) in leading the Pioneers to a 179-104 win over Faith Baptist Bible College on Tuesday. The number of points broke the record of 113 set in 1954.

Taylor, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound sophomore from Black River Falls, Wis., made 27 of 71 3-point attempts, was 52 of 108 overall from the field and added seven free throws on 10 attempts in 36 minutes.

Yes, he shot 108 times! He had 58 points at halftime and told the Associated Press: “It felt like anything I tossed up was going in.” Not really, since he shot an overall 48%, though a respectable 38% from 3-point range. It does have the impact of a coach letting a guy shoot just to get a record, though it was cool enough to have me write about it.
