Patrick Burke and Andrew Ference raise money for You Can Play

It was a big week for the You Can Play project. Not only did they have several NHL players and an owner release supportive videos, but they also did it with the backing of the NHL teams.

Edmonton Oilers Ryan Jones and Ryan Whitney both released videos; Jones' video and support of You Can Play was covered by the Oilers' Web site. Washington Capital Matt Hendricks was joined by his team in announcing their support for the project.

It was a big week for the You Can Play project. Not only did they have several NHL players and an owner release supportive videos, but they also did it with the backing of the NHL teams.

Edmonton Oilers Ryan Jones and Ryan Whitney both released videos; Jones’ video and support of You Can Play was covered by the Oilers’ Web site. Washington Capital Matt Hendricks was joined by his team in announcing their support for the project.

“We are proud to stand with Matt Hendricks and athletes across the globe to make a difference in the sports community,” said founder, chairman, majority owner and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment Ted Leonsis. “You Can Play is an important cause, and we value this opportunity to have a role in its mission.”

Nashville Predators owner W. Brett Wilson also added his voice to the cause, becoming the first NHL team owner to release a video of support.

And the organization got a financial boost with an impromptu fundraiser on Wednesday. Boston Bruin Andrew Ference helped raise over $2,000 with an invitation to You Can Play founder Patrick Burke to run the stairs at Harvard Stadium. Patrick kept his sense of humor despite being wiped out.

Congratulations to You Can Play on such a fantastic week!
