Campus Pride is calling for entries for their Voice & Action Athlete Award, given to a student-athlete at a college or university who exhibit leadership and inclusion for the LGBT community. The award recipient can be LGBTQ or straight.

"The newest Voice and Action Awards have been designed to honor individuals working in communities where there is less LGBT outreach and awareness, such as athletics," said Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride. "It is important to recognize the role LGBT and ally young adults play in our movement on their college campuses and local communities. These individuals recognized each year by Campus Pride are indeed leading positive change today and will continue to lead for our future."

This is a great initiative, rewarding those athletes who are willing to come out and lead as shining examples of inclusion. Big kudos to Campus Pride and their partners for seeing the need for this recognition.

Applications for the award are due Nov. 26. You can find more information at the Campus Pride Web site. The award is in partnership with GO! Athletes and the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation. All are members of the LGBT Sports Coalition.
