Toronto Marlies' Dallas Eakins delivers inspiring speech to gay team
The Toronto Gay Hockey Association has partnered with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League and this weekend the TGHA played an intrasquad game prior to the Marlies game. The coaches for the intrasquad game were Marlies Head Coach Dallas Eakins and Assistant Coach Derek King.
TGHA has posted a video of Eakins, a former NHL player, speaking to the players pregame and it's terrific. He talks about the courage gay people have in coming out and relates how openly gay player Scott Heggart addressed the Marlies this season and the impact it had. Specifically, Heggart made Eakins' players see how homophobic words can hurt.
TGHA has 10 teams and 150 players and its partnership with the Marlies is unique.
