Photograph: Matt Roberts/Getty Images The England international Gareth Widdop was released from hospital on Tuesday morning but is facing more tests to discover the full extent of the hip injury that will almost certainly force him to miss the World Cup. The 24-year-old stand-off suffered a dislocated hip during Melbourne Storm's 18-12 defeat by Gold Coast Titans in Queensland on Monday but x-rays allayed fears of a fracture. Melbourne say scans have cleared Widdop of any structural injury but he has suffered some cartilage damage, the full extent of which will not be determined until next week. "Gaz is facing a minimum of 12 weeks out," said the England coach Steve McNamara after he visited the player in hospital in Robina. "They got the hip back in and there is no fracture but further investigations are needed to be sure of the time scale. He's in a positive frame of mind." Gareth-widdop-008_medium
