The sports world will go purple this Thursday, Oct. 16, in honor of Spirit Day, the annual commemoration of the fight against bullying and display of support for the victims of bullying.

This year's official participants include the NBA, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the WWE and others in the sports world. Outsports will also be turning purple for the day!

Spirit Day was originally conceived by teenager Brittany McMillan, who wanted to use the purple in the rainbow flag to show support for all of her friends who had been bullied. GLAAD now organizes the observance of the day with outreach across the sports world, media, public officials, corporations and other people and organizations.

You can show your support by turning your social media presence purple and using #SpiritDay.
