Outsports has been able to identify seven out LGBT athletes — all women — at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. There still has never been a single gay man to come out publicly before or while competing in the Winter Olympics.

We'll be tracking their performances throughout the Games.

  • Belle Brockhoff: An Australian snowboarder who is competing in her first Olympic Games. She came out publicly in protest of newly enacted anti-gay Russian laws.
  • Anatasia Bucsis: Canadian speed skater who competed in the 500m at the Vancouver Olympics four years ago but did not medal.
  • Daniela Iraschko-Stolz: An Austrian ski jumper who will compete in her first Olympics, as this is the first time the Olympic Games have allowed women to compete in the sport.
  • Barbara Jezeršek: Slovenian cross country skier who competed in three events in the Vancouver Olympics, finishing as high as 14th. She's been tweeting at us all week with her thoughts on Sochi. We hope she continues.
  • Cheryl Maas: Dutch snowboarder who competed in the halfpipe in the 2006 Olympics. She is married to Norwegian former snowboarder Stine Brun Kjeldaas. She will be one of the first athletes to compete, taking to the slopes Thursday before the Opening Ceremony.
  • Sanne van Kerkhof: A Dutch short track speedskater who competed in the Olympics four years ago. She won a silver medal in 3000m relay at the 2011 World Championships.
  • Ireen Wüst: A bisexual Dutch speed skater who won Olymic gold in the 3000m in 2006 and in the 1500m in 2010. She does not like talking about her sexual orientation in public and was not happy that it became a bit of a story four years ago.
