The NCAA has voted to award the city of Greensboro, N.C., with basketball tournament games in 2019 and 2020.

Greensboro will play host to a women’s basketball tournament Regional in 2019, and the men will play in Greensboro for first- and second-round games in 2020. The men will return in 2021 and play games in Raleigh.

Awarding basketball games to the hoops-crazy state sends a message that the NCAA has no further issues with the state despite the legislature and governor legalizing anti-LGBT discrimination there until at least 2021. The state replaced its anti-LGBT HB2 law with the equally anti-LGBT HB142 law last month.

The NCAA didn’t stop with basketball, awarding a vast amount of championship events to the state, including:

  • 2019-2022 D2 baseball championship – Cary, N.C.
  • 2019 & 2021 D1 men’s soccer championship – Cary, N.C.
  • 2018 & 2020 D1 women’s soccer championship – Cary, N.C.
  • 2018-2021 D3 men’s & women’s soccer championship – Greensboro, N.C.
  • 2020 D1 women’s golf regional – Raleigh, N.C.
  • 2020 & 2022 women’s gymnastics regional – Raleigh, N.C.
  • 2019 D1 field hockey championship – Winston-Salem, N.C.
  • 2022 men’s and women’s rifle championship – Raleigh, N.C.
  • 2019-2020 D3 men’s and women’s swimming & diving championship – Greensboro, N.C.

If there was any question about where the NCAA stands on legalized discrimination against LGBT people, these almost two-dozen events should answer said question.
