Pardon the Lesbian

Carol de Blazer
is at it again, thinking she knows more about ballin’ than Ballin’.
Ms. de B.
first argued her POV and shared her love of the Portland Trailing
Blazers in
an earlier column.
That column begat more fodder and counterpoints via e-mail, which
begat more fodder and counterpoints via e-mail, which ... you get the
picture.
We pick up
where we left off ...
Carol de
B.: I realize your column is humor, but I am not a “faithfully
blind follower” of the Blazers. I have been very critical when I felt
criticism was warranted. I refused to go to games for a year to
protest the signing of Ruben Patterson and let them know that.
But there is a difference between being critical when needed and
slamming. To call the Blazers near cellar-dwellers is ludicrous.
Frankly, I and others are tired of the Blazers as favorite whipping
boy. Wallace and Stoudamire get caught with marijuana
(like they’re the only guys in the NBA who smoke) and get more bad
press than a court order for Glen Robinson in an assault case!
Portland loses two games and they are self-destructing
BTW, I did not say Rasheed Wallace should host Mr. Rogers’
Neighborhood. In fact, I’ve never even watched Mr. Rogers’
Neighborhood. But please, continue. This Blazer team has proven the
truth of Saint Joan’s words in the Shaw play, “woe unto me when all
men praise me.” They do best when they can be “us against the world.”
So keep the slams coming.
Ballin’:
Accusing you of being faithfully blind or wanting Wallace to replace
Mr. Rogers (who was still alive at the time) are not meant to be
direct quotes attributed to you, but rather my own
“over-exaggerations” of my perception of your worship of the team. I
have “blind faith” most readers will get this.
Carol de
B.: Obviously, many of yours and my comments were tongue-in-cheek.
Truthfully, the only thing that really bothered me was the blind faith
thing. Because I have argued this with other fans. There are those who
say a true fan must never criticize a team or its players and those
who do are fair-weather, undermining, etc. Rather like those who say
any criticism of US policy is treason or at least unpatriotic!
Guess we all just have to wait to see how the season plays out.
P.S. I also
like Steve Nash since he wore a “shooting for peace” T-shirt at
the all star game.
Meanwhile ... back on the court ... Kobe scores 40 a game for two
weeks. The Knicks show life in the East. And our favorite Blazer fan
freaks at a Ballin’ column that says the surging Lakers will win it
all.
Carol
de. B.: The Lakers? Going out on a limb, are you? Not sure if a #7
seed has ever won it all. Man, who’s the one with the blind faith
here? Remember, they are 11-17 on the road. And unless you are
really going out on the limb to end all limbs, they will not have
home court.
P.S. How’d
you like Pip’s 13 boards last night? Not too shabby for an old fart,
huh?
Ballin:
The #7 seed has never had the best two players in the game
right now, as well as the best coach ,as well as three rings on
their fingers (or is that 36 rings?). Not blind faith ... reality ....
not a Lakers fan here ... just know what they’re capable of. They
still haven’t brought their A game. And as far as the road record: ask
Sacramento, which lost in Game 7 to these Lakers last year, how much
that means.
RE:
Pippen ... let’s see if the old fart can last until the end of the
first round.
Carol de
B.: Well, if they’re so damn good, why are they the #7 seed? And
if they “still haven’t brought their A game”, are you admitting the
Lakers are deliberately cheating fans who come to see them? Not to
mention deliberately giving themselves a low seed?
Last year,
the Lakers were a +.500 team on the road. So winning road games in the
post season was expected of them. This year so far they’ve shown they
can’t even beat an Eastern Conference playoff team on the road.
I got a
seat for the Blazers game in Oakland next month right behind their
bench. If I hear anything good I may pass it along, since I plan on
giving them the Ballin’ column.
BTW, I do
seem to remember Scottie Pippen lasting beyond the first round many
times in his hall of fame career.
Ballin’:
The Lakers are doing anything but cheating fans. They’re making it
interesting for the first time in years. Think of it as the WWF meets
the NBA. Plus, they really do need motivation to go out and dominate
every night. Where’s the fun if you know The Rock is going to
go out and pummel someone each night? (Unless, of course, you know
it’s you he’s going to be pummeling).
RE: Pippen
... He’s is in the final act of his hall of fame career. As is Jordan.
As is Reggie Miller. As is Karl Malone and his little
buddy John Stockton. Let’s see if any of these guys makes a
difference in June.
