Blue Jays Gay Days
Outsports.com

On June 23, the Toronto Blue Jays will hold Pride Day 2005 as the Jays play the Baltimore Orioles. Holding such events is becoming more and more common. Gay Baseball Days, a terrific site run by Outsports contributor Mark Kari, lists six such days this year.

What is unusual is how aggressively and unapologetically the Jays are marketing this. The game is listed as an official Pride Event and the Blue Jays are sending our press releases to announce it. Even more impressive are the awesome flyers the team has printed for the event (see below). They are creative, fun and a real leap from sports franchises that barely acknowledge they even have gay fans.

More details on the game:

--Pride Day 2005 will take place of Thursday, June 23 when the Toronto Blue Jays host the Baltimore Orioles in game scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m.
--For the second consecutive year, the Blue Jays Pride Day has been given Pride Status and included in the official calendar of events for Pride Toronto 2005
--Tickets are available now by calling 416 341-1188 and quoting the code "Pride 05"
--A portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold will be donated back to Pride Toronto as part of a special pregame presentation
--Pride Toronto has pledged its support in promoting the event in Toronto's gay and lesbian community
--Tickets can be purchased for $19.45 or $13.80 for groups of ten or more people
--Those prices represent a 25% saving off the regular ticket price and up to 40% off for groups
--Participants will be seated in field level seats on the first base side of the newly renovated Rogers Centre, featuring a new video display system and a new playing surface.
