Cubs Fans Are Out At The Ball Game

On June 23, more than 2,000 gay and lesbian baseball fans were inside the ivy-covered walls of Wrigley Field for ``Out at the Ball Game'' to watch their ``Cubbies'' play.

The event was unusual in that it marked the culmination of a direct marketing effort by the team to Chicago's gay and lesbian community. The Cubs became the first professional male sports team to advertise with a gay and lesbian publication when it purchased nine full page ads in the Chicago Free Press, the cityıs largest gay and lesbian newsweekly.

Bill Gubrud, of the Chicago Free Press, organized "Out at the Ball Game" in response to the positive feedback the Cubs have received in the gay and lesbian community.
