This is the anti-poll week. The beauty contest is over and the time is here for a team to play in or play out of the dance if on “the bubble.” As I sat down to write this Creighton handed a resounding defeat to Southern Illinois giving the Saluki a tough wait till Sunday to find out if they make the field. This could be the story for several other teams this week some who might need and extra victory or two if not an outright win to grab a spot. Of the teams on the bubble I give the best shots to Minnesota and Tennessee breaking in especially since Georgia has withdrawn, shame on Jim Harrick and his son.

Since all the games this week are in tournament format there is little speculation to be made, just great games to watch. On second thought one first round conference tournament game to watch will be Arizona State against Oregon. I was at the game last week when ASU played into the big dance and Oregon was put on the bubble. Oregon will be desperate for a victory so it should be a good game. I don’t imagine either team will have a huge crowd on hand so it should be very neutral.

In the shock department it also looks like the ACC might only get three teams into the Big Dance. Who ever thought the day would come where Conference USA would be more attractive to the selection committee than the ACC. With four teams safely in and a few long shots still possible C-USA could end up with some serious deep runs into the Elite Eight or better.

I hope you all will have as much fun this week as I will watching the games and waiting for Selection Sunday.

Stud of the Week

Ian Crosswhite caught my eye when I saw Oregon play last Thursday. Once again the official picture does not do the boy justice. I have to chalk this up to the fact that as a freshman he’s still changing and maybe even growing. Though not a starter for the Ducks the kid saw a lot of playing time and is sure to become a leader on their young team. By the way, he’s Australian, a land that seems to produce the best looking athletes in the world.
