Board Guidelines
Outsports Discussion
Board members are encouraged to
Be
civil and courteous, always, without exception. If you disagree
with something you read, criticize the opinion, not the person
stating it. If you're angry, take a break – the thread will still be
there when you get back.
Make
sure that your topic fits the forum you’re posting in, has a
clear and concise title, and doesn't duplicate an existing
discussion - please use Search before you start a new
thread, to make sure.
When
quoting a lengthy article, quote only the pertinent passage,
with a link to the original page.
Similarly, when quoting an earlier post, quote only the pertinent
passage, and delete the rest.
Post a
photo only when absolutely necessary, and then keep it small. A
link to an image is preferred, since a large picture takes up
lots of space in a thread and can cause serious delays for low
bandwidth/dial-up users.
If you
clicked the Add Reply button more than once, please go back and
delete the duplicate post.
Register with the discussion board. Only Jim and Cyd have access
to registration info, and you can say as little as you want. All
that's required are a username and your email address.
To
create a hyperlink, a bulleted list, bold or italic text, see
What is UBB Code?
Please avoid
Advertisements or any other commercial activity.
SHOUTING, that is, posting in all capital letters.
Double-posting, i.e. one post immediately after another by the same
author in the same thread. Combine such comments into a single post
by using the Edit/Delete Post button.
Off-topic, irrelevant or nonsensical posts.
- Comments that
directly insult, attack, harass or threaten another member. If you
disagree with something you read, criticize the opinion, not the
person stating it. If you're angry, take a break, the thread will
still be there when you get back.
-
Revealing someone’s private, personal information without their
permission.
-
Pornographic, sexually explicit or otherwise offensive material, or
links to same.
-
Cross-posting, that is, posting the same content on more than one
thread.
- Posting
copyrighted material, except by permission of the author or
copyright holder. Links to copyrighted material are generally no
problem.
-
Registering under more than one username. However, you may easily
change your Publicly Displayed Name under
View/Update Profile.
Posts in violation
of these guidelines may be edited, moved, locked or deleted without
notice and at Outsports' sole discretion. Likewise, members who
repeatedly violate these guidelines may be temporarily or permanently
prohibited from further posting.
Outsports Discussion Board Questions and
Answers
Q. Are Private
Messages really private? I know that other members can't see them, but
what about the administrators?
A. We don't have access to Private Messages. Rest assured, what you
say in a PM is your own business.
Q. What should
I do if I see objectionable material in a post?
A. Please
notify us by clicking the Report Post button at the bottom of each
post. Since the moderators can’t monitor the contents of every
message, we appreciate our members' help in doing so.
Q. I can't find
my thread from a couple of weeks ago. Did you purge it?
A. We hardly
ever delete an entire thread. By default, the board displays only
posts modified within the last 10 days. On every forum index page
there's a drop-down menu, "Show topics from last X days". You can
change it manually, or use your discussion board profile to change
your own default view. Another way to find a particular topic is the
Search link at the top of every page.
Q. How do I
post a picture that's saved on my own computer?
A. A .jpg or
.gif image can only be linked from another active Internet page. What
you can do is upload the picture to your ISP personal Webspace, or to
a photo storage Website such as Yahoo Photo Album or Webshots. Once
you’ve uploaded the image, create a link to its URL from your
Outsports post.
Q. When I
clicked a link that somebody posted, why did it say I wasn't
authorized?
A. A particular Internet provider or author may not allow direct
linking. You can usually get to such a page by copying the link's
complete URL (http://...) and pasting it into your browser’s Address
or Location bar. In some cases, registration with the other site may
be required.
