Making A Difference:  Rudy Galindo
In 2000, U.S. skating champ Rudy Galindo felt sick and tests showed he was HIV-positive. Through hard work, talent and will Galindo finished the year second in the world pro event and became an advocate for people with HIV.

Eric Anderson had to be true to himself. He became the first openly gay high school track coach in America when he told the administration and members of his team at Huntington Beach High School that he was gay.

A Psychologist Takes on Iverson: ``Out of Control"
November 2000 - NBA player Allen Iverson was caught on tape calling a fan a ``faggot.'' As sports psychologist Richard Lustberg says: ``Often people are scared of those aspects within themselves that they are judgmental about.'' 

He Says What About My Boyfriend?
October 2000 - Allen Iverson, the latest NBA-star-turned-rapper, is making headlines in the first week of preseason, as his upcoming debut album is coming under fire for some pretty scary homophobic and sexist lyrics.  

Homophobia In Paradise: University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors no more
June 2000 - Homophobia lives in paradise.  The University of Hawaii  nixed the football team's 77-year-old rainbow logo because of concerns about its homosexual theme.

Fans' Attitudes Toward Gay Jocks
August 2002 - A new survey on public attitudes towards gay athletes in professional sports showed contradictions—most fans said their attitude toward their favorite athlete would not change, but speculated that their neighbor’s would. Overall, most people said they would view an athlete coming out in a positive light.
