We know there are plenty of guys out there playing flag football. Right now, we know only of four gay teams playing. If you would like yourself listed as a local contact for gay flag football, or you're playing on a team, please e-mail us and give us the pertinent info.

The Report From L.A.

Jan. 5, 2002

WEATHER: WEATHER: 72, sunny, the perfect SoCal day.

WELCOME BACK: It was great to have James (now in Philly) and Octavio (in New Jersey) back playing today. They are welcome any time, though I could have done without them discussing how Philadelphia smells as bad as New Jersey.

HIGHLIGHTS:

OFFENSIVE PLAY OF THE DAY: Demond, who caught a screen pass, made three guys miss, turned the corner on the guy who had the angle and scored. Also loved him hurdling Albert on one play.

DEFENSIVE PLAY OF THE DAY: Octavio's interception that he turned into a weaving 70-yard touchdown.

FLAG DAY: D. Hinders somehow managed to keep his flags on despite Doug having about 100 chances to grab them. Couldn't tell if they were glued on.

NEVER SAW THAT: Scott grabbed Doug's flag and he was touched, stopping Team Green short of a first down. Only problem is that they were both on the same team.

INCENTIVE: Albert, when asked why he didn't give up on a long pass play to Octavio. ``He's a cop, I couldn't let him score.''

AN OLYMPIC MOMENT: As Demond was racing to another touchdown and started high-stepping, Bubba yelled out: ``You go, Jackie Joyner!''

TALK ABOUT RUMBLING, BUMBLING, STUMBLING: Bubba caught a pass and had at least another 15 yards ahead. But he was tackled by the air and fell to the ground.

NICE PASSES, CATCHES: Bryan, Don and James each had some excellent throws for scores. Ruben made an acrobatic TD catch with two guys on him. Jay, Scott, DBond, D. Hinders and Albert each scored on nice routes/and or catches. Octavio twisted around to make a nice adjustment on a long pass from Jim.

DON'T GO THERE: Four times Bryan tried to hit Albert with a pass, with Octavio guarding him. The results Zero completions.

THE CHALLENGE: After Jim sacked Don for a 15-yard loss (my lone defensive highlight), Jay made fun of Don's speed, which of course Don could not yet go unchallenged. I smell a race in the future. My bet's on them both being too winded to finish.

(Note: Outsports co-founders Jim Buzinski and Cyd Zeigler Jr. play in this group.)
