The Report From L.A.
Oct. 20
WEATHER: Partly sunny, 70, slight
wind. Perfect. The highlights, in no particular order:
CATCH O' THE DAY: Cyd's Tony
Gonzalez-esque grab while falling and knocking the ball back up to
himself. Roger's fancy footwork in the back of the end zone to stay
in-bounds. Jim's slide in the mud to snag a low pass for a first
down.
BALL HAWK: Andrew came up with two
picks and nearly had a third. For good measure, he also scored a couple
of times on offense.
MARATHON MAN: David (the new one)
ran about a mile on one play trying to snatch the quarterback.
PICK O' THE DAY: Bryan, who timed
his break perfectly, caught the ball and sprinted (I'm being generous)
into the end zone.
WITH A BULLET: Jay's rifle pass
that might have decapitated Phil, who defended himself by catching the
pass for a touchdown.
TWO-WAY MAN: JP catches a slant
pass and races(?) for a touchdown. He then QBs on the conversion and
throws a nice pass to Freddie for the score.
HEY, ANYBODY CAN DO THIS JOB: We
had six guys quarterback their teams to scores: Pete (who was great);
Cyd; Jay; Jim; Brandon and Bryan.
HEY, HOW COME THE DEFENSE HAS AN EXTRA
GUY?: Jim goes back to pass and is ready to release the ball. Until
up pops Brent, camera in hand in the defensive backfield. Jim yells at
him to get down and the two have a discussion as the play continues. The
pass wound up being completed for a score. Hope Brent's shot was worth
it!
SURE HANDS: Chris, Brent and Davd
H. came up big consistently, with each catching at least one TD
pass.
WACKY PLAY O' THE DAY: Jim catches
a 10-yard pass, looks around and tosses it back to Brandon, who, as he
is about to get tackled, tosses it back to Jim, who yells ``Don't do
that!'' watching in horror as two defenders make a play on the ball and
miss.
FACTOID ONLY I KNEW UNTIL NOW:
Jay's girlfriend, Josie, informs me he's even competitive logging onto
eBay.
NEXT UP: Saturday Oct. 27, 11:30
a.m. Bring a white and dark shirt.
(Note: Outsports
co-founders Jim Buzinski and Cyd Zeigler Jr. play in this group.)
