Sunday 12/11 ESPN Outside the Lines Options

Former Penn State basketball player Jennifer Harris will appear on ESPN Sunday morning to talk about her claim that coach Rene Portland discriminated against her.

The show, "Outside the Lines," is scheduled to air at 9:30 a.m. EST Sunday. ESPN spokeswoman Tilea Coleman said that in addition to Harris, two Penn State players from different eras will appear on the show to discuss their relationships with Portland. Coleman would not say who the other players are. "It should be a pretty compelling piece," she said.

saw the first twenty minutes of the show (had to take the dog out) and i thought outside the lines did a really good job with it. i hope it brings even more pressure on penn st. to force portland to resign. surprised there hasn't been more discussion of this here...

Darn, I didn't see the show! I hope PSU comes clean and exposes the truth about Rene Portland. When the latest episode came up, I wrote to PSU and got back some standard letter stating that this was the first accusation about Portland to have been brought to the University's attention, blah, blah, etc. Right away they were lying because as most people who follow womens' basketball know, Portland's discrimatory practices against lesbians go back at least 20 years ago or longer.

I played against this b*tch (sorry but that's how much I hate her!) in the early to mid 80's, and she is one of the most cockiest, conceited persons (male or female) I have ever known! I can't wait for the day that she is held accountable for her wicked deeds!! :mad:

As a University administrator, this story bothers me on so many levels. We are charged with educating and developing our students, and if this women did what she is accussed of, at best she was doing neither. How a University could let this go on for all these years is beyond me. It is beyond belief that someone who allegedly cares enough about students to work with them would harrass one of them to the point where she contemplated suicide. It's disgusting and goes against everything we are suppossed to be doing in Higher Education!

ESPN did a nice job with the story, although neither Portland or PSU would be interviewed on camera.

My wish is that everytime one of these toxic homophobes is exposed, a gay/lesbian kid somewhere gains strength through seeing just how stupid and peverse that person is.

Compelling stuff.

Cindy also posts on a Penn State Women's basketball board under KDW35. She often gets flamed for speaking out on Rene Portland's homophobic policies. I and others try to stand up for her and what is right, but sometimes I feel like Cindy is taking a lot of abuse.
