Best and Worst QB situations

I agree that Miami and Chicago have done a great job this off season but I'm not as confident about the Saints. I'm not sure DB without LT is gonna work.

On the flip side I agree pretty much with all the potential disasters including Houston except I don't think they need to 'fix' David Carr per se. I think they should be focusing on his supporting cast.

And yeah, Minnesota is going to be a nightmare.

As far as Miami is concerned,I think someone will be whistling a different tune if anything happens to Culpepper. This will give Joey Harrington a chance to prove that he really does stink.I don't agree with most of John Czarnecki's assessments. The Lions will be MUCH better this season because of the coaching change as well as the new quarterbacks.

Oh, I think Drew will do just fine with Reggie Bush and Deuce McCalister behind him. Even if you think Deuce is no Tomlison, surely you would agree that the combination of McCalister and Bush in the backfield would keep any defense honest. Brees will get to throw the ball.

Drew is a question mark just because of his injury. I love the guy and hate that he isn't with the Chargers anymore, but everything I've read says its a roll of the dice whether he will be able to play a full season, throw a long ball, etc.. no matter how well he says he's doing in practice and rehab. But if anyone can pull through when everything is against him it would be Brees.

Now that Steve McNair won his arbitration, does this mean only that he can work out with the team? Despite all the talk the Titan Front Office is mouthing about wanting to work a new deal with him for less money, I just don't see how this is possible. I don't think McNair was bluffing when he said that he wants to be released if they don't pay him what he wants and also guarantee him three years of playing time?

Since the Titans refused to exercise that $50M bonus and paid the $1M penalty to kill his current contract, and since Steve is not likely to accept any contract that pays him less than his current $9M/year, I don't see how things can get worked out to everybody's satisfaction. Especially, I don't see how the Titans can keep McNair (e.g.; they would have to contend with his $23M salary cap hit) and still sign Vince Young and all their free agents (if they decide to keep them) and stay under the cap, even if it did increase this year. I guess they could sign Vince to a big contract with a fat signing bonus and then spread out the salary cap hit over several years. They will have to if they are serious about re-signing Steve.

Even though McNair's current contract does not expire util the end of the 2006 season, the Titans still might have to release him for financial reasons. They are out $13.5M from previous pro-rated signing bonuses no matter what they do this season; since they opted out of the current contract that ran through 2009. Because they did this, those pro-rated signing bonuses automatically became due (accelerated) and will count against the Titans' 2006 salary cap.

If they re-sign him at his $9M salary (won't happen), they will absorb a salary cap hit of $23M (his $9M salary plus the accellerated bonus of $13.5M).

I guess they could work a deal with another team, but who would want him? He's damaged goods. I hope they can work something out; Steve has been a loyal soldier and agreed to contract re-negotiations every time the Titans needed to get back under the cap. But I don't think he will agree to a salary cut this time. It's too bad, because Vince Young will never have a better mentor for his style of play than Steve McNair, and, Steve deserves to retire with the team that made him.

Brees is a Saint in New Orleans. Everybody loves him. We don't expect miracles, just 100% effort. The number of wins is not that important to fans who suffered years of losing.
