Did anybody catch the games yesterday?
The Good: BYU/Oklahoma game was a really good game. It kept me on edge, and I couldn't wait to see who would win.
The bad: The U.T. Austin game. It was a massacre. I lost interest halfway through. I hate blow-out games.
The ugly: Georgia getting their butts handed to them. Joe Cox was pretty shitty yesterday. I am hoping that it was just first game jitters and that he can get it together.

The Good: 'Bama v. VT game was an awesome game, especially being this early in the season. Also liked the BYU v. OU, Washington v. LSU (a lot closer than I thought it'd be, score wise that is. But statistically, a total surprise), & Georgia v. Okie State games.
The Bad: Lots of blowouts. But many teams tend to schedule cupcakes for their out-of-conference schedules.
The Ugly: Tied. Bradford's fall on his right shoulder, ouch! Blount's post game punch & out-of-control behavior.

Considering just how bad they've been the last couple of years - Michigan and Notre Dame had a fantastic game today. Back and forth - tons of offence with Michigan's freshman quarterback showing incredible poise in the winning drive. Great stuff!

Great games all around yesterday: OSU/USC, UGa/USCocks, UCLA/Tenn, Mich/ND... now it's time for the game I've been looking forward to all year: Tenn at UF. Could loose every other game (except FSU) of the year, as long as welcome Kiffin into the SEC properly. He's been begging for a spanking and I pray the Gators will give it to him good.

Gaytor, living within a two hour radius of Knoxville, I can tell you that Rocky Top isn't as confident as it was before the ucla game. Most of the Tennessee fans I know feel they have no chance and expect to lose big.
And speaking of games last week, my TIGERS' loss in atlanta on thursday to the bees and their option genius of a coach still makes me nauseous. We showed grit in coming back and leading in the fourth quarter, but I'll think about this game for a while.

GOOD Fast becoming my favorite gator is Riley Cooper who (oh please let it be so!!! ) may give up a career in baggy baseball pants to keep playing football. Any receiver who blocks for a teammate after losing his helmet has got to love what he's doing; and then boosts his fellow receivers even after the game. Frankly I hope he avoids the two-sport route and sticks to one or the other. And it's pretty obvious where I'd like to see his cute mug and butt.
Bad Looks like My Terps are headed for another so-so year having trouble with early teams already.
ugly The whole crappy lack of a playoff because of greedy team's/conference's love affair with the bowl system.

Yesterday afternoon I tuned in to the 4th quarter at Husky Stadium and saw the Huskies with a late 3 point lead, over USC, and I was like WHOA! They held on to win the game on a field goal after USC had gone down the field to tie the game up on a field goal. What an UPSET!!!! Half the stadium was on the field after the win. Can't blame them after a year of not having one win. I was very pleased.

Am happy to report that a streak of ugly has come to an end! The nation's longest 1-A (I refuse to call the divisions by their "new" names) road losing streak has come to an end. Iowa State won at Kent State, 34-14 last night to end a 17 game winless streak away from Ames, Iowa. The last time my Cyclones won on the road was a 42-14 pounding of Texas A&M on October 29, 2005.
Ok, so it was against Kent State. But consider that this was the type of team that would have beaten us soundly over the last three seasons had we played them anyplace but Jack Trice Stadium (or even at JTS). Now the streak is someone else's problem.

As if we needed any more proof that the coaches' poll is a complete crock, Washington is NOT in the top 25 despite losing to the coaches' own #7 by only eight points and beating #10. What a joke.
My national championship dark horse is Cal. Then again, they seem to start off great every year before staggering into bowl season like a drunk coming home from the bar.
It's way too early to be making general pronouncements, but it looks like it's going to be "one of those years." I would be surprised if any of the major conference teams go undefeated and would not be surprised if a 2-loss SEC team made it into the NC game. The Big 10 has backed itself into a corner and needs an undefeated squad. Ohio State is the only one of the big three with the schedule to have an impressive loss (which they have already used up) and their previous BCS clunkers have poisoned the well. It's hard to see them making it as a 1-loss team unless there is a meltdown in the Big 12 CG and the Pac 10 has a weak winner. Penn State has no credible OOC opponents and Michigan is barely in the top 25; both of them have no margin for error in conference. Presumably Penn State could lose this weekend to Iowa and claw their way back with some lopsided wins, but I wouldn't bet on it. That said, if Michigan or Penn State manage to win out, they should be a solid #1 going into the NC game. The Pac 10 will probably become an ACC-style circular firing squad, it's way too early for Miami to be contending for national titles again, and the Big East is abominable. This leaves the door wide open for another LSU 2007 situation.
If anything, losses by BYU and Utah might help the cause for non-BCS conference schools by focusing attention on Boise State, where it belongs. They have built up enough goodwill that if they win out, the voters will leapfrog them over any non-Miami ACC team, any Big East team, a 1-loss Pac 10 or Big 10 team, or a 2-loss Big 12 or SEC team. If it's two big-time SEC/B12 teams like Texas and Florida getting through their conference championship games with one loss each, Boise is probably the odd man out.

Cal isn't a dark horse this year; they should be on everyone's radar
and bashing the BE; how predictable
it isn't football season if someone isn't saying how bad the BE is

With Boise St up to #5 in the rankings this year, I think they have a distinct chance at getting into the national chmapionship game--especially if Oregon wins the PAC-10.
And um...aside from the names of the programs, can anyone explain to me what Ohio State and Oklahoma have done that makes them more worthy of the top 10 than say, Iowa and Oregon?

Good question, JC. I am fans of both teams, so I am not going to comment. However, what the hell was going on last Saturday? What was up with all of the blow-out games?
The Ugly: Florida/ Kentucky game (41-7), UTEP/Texas (64-7), Ohio State/ Illinois (30-0), Virginia Tech/Miami (31-7), and Oregon/California (42-3). And these were just the games that I watched.
The Bad: Tebow's concussion during the Florida game. He is home now, but damn it looked ugly. And 3 turnovers in the Georgia game.
The Good:Michigan vs Indiana game was awesome. Carlos Brown is amazing.

That blow to the back of Tebow's head was scary. Clean hit, bad landing. New thinking on concussions is that it takes much longer for the brain to heal than previous thought. Getting hit again too soon after the injury can lead to long term damage. I hope he stays out at least 4 weeks or as long as it takes to heal. We had our time in the sun. SEC football games are always fun to go to no matter who's winning (as long as week beat the crap out of Tenn and FSU).

Good game Miami and Oklahoma (I am diggin the porn stache Landry Jones!). The UGA game was a major disappointment. Cox sucks, but hopefully he will get his shit together.

Michigan - Michigan State game was incredible . . . great overtime win by the Spartans. Never yelled at the TV so much in my life. If MSU could learn how to play during the final five minutes of a game, they'd be undefeated.
And the MSU QB, Kirk Cousins, is very easy on the eyes.

There are some days you just want to thank God you're gay. And yesterday was one of them.
I watched a lot of the Arkansas-Florida game just to get a glimpse - or two - of Riley Cooper's incredible glutes and was stunned at what I think was one of the most blatant displays of greed ever to discredit the game of college football.
I counted - and the commentators even noted - no less than two, maybe three egregious critical NON-calls by SEC officials that would have gone against Florida, and could have cost them the game.
Is it really THAT important for the SEC to have Florida repeat as phony-BCS champ?
One unfortunately even involved Cooper's obvious interference of an overthrown Tebow pass that could easily have been intercepted by the Arkansas safety in Florida's endzone with the game tied and time left.
Bill Clinton must have turned redder than when he was questioned about Monica Lewinsky watching this one.
Hmm, maybe it's karma.
Whatever - I got my pleasure out of it. And if I must see more of Coop's butt I suppose I'll have to suffer.

That was indeed a pathetic showing by the refs in the UF-Arkansas game. I was watching Notre Dame-USC; Duval Kamara's unsure footing (or more specifically, the guy who ripped off Robby Parris's helmet and made the Kamara substitution necessary in the first place) robbed us of what could have been an incredible overtime. 9-3 always seemed like a good goal for this year's team, but that may not be enough for Weis to keep his job.
The first BCS standings were released today and one thing is already clear: Alabama or Florida will be one of the teams in the national championship game, even if they have a loss during the regular season. The voters love them, the computers love them, and they will probably play each other in the SEC title game. The only possible roadblock aside from unexpected collapse is an Alabama loss to LSU, which would give LSU the tiebreaker in the West, but they would still have to pull off the unlikely task of winning out. The Tigers don't look like they are that kind of team this year.
The second NC competitor, who knows. I doubt that Cincinnati or Iowa will hold on, but if they do, they look pretty good to make it to Pasadena. I will root for Boise State to make it over any 1-loss non-SEC team, but it's hard to say they would deserve it more than an undefeated Cincinnati, Iowa, or even TCU. Texas looks like it's skating on thin ice but obviously they control their own destiny given their spot at #3 in the rankings.
The only sure thing is that there are no sure things with a bunch of roided-up 90 IQ teenagers on the field, and that's what makes college football so compelling.

The GOOD (and AMAZING): Iowa State just won AT NEBRASKA, 9-7, for the first time since 1977. I didn't think we could pull off a win like that until the volleyball team made me believe on Wednesday night - they won in Lincoln, beating NU for the first time EVER in ISU volleyball history (after going 0-75). NU simply imploded and turned the ball over eight times today, while ISU had zero turnovers. Absolutely incredible!

I stick to my above post. 'Bama is the team to beat. I know a lot can happen. But they have consistently impressed me!
Well, are you still impressed after yesterday's near meltdown?

Suck it michigan! that is all....
I wholeheartedly concur. Glad to do our part yesterday. I see you've joined the "I can't believe we lost to Iowa" club. Is their luck going to run out, or are they destined to keep finding ways to win?

Yeah that was awful...
But you have to consider that their matchup is a rivalry & as I'm sure you know sometimes team records & talent go out the window in such passionate games. Heck, I can remember SC losing to Ucla or Notre Dame(or both) when SC should have on paper.
