Came across this interesting story in the January issue of Out magazine. The whole issue was outstanding by the way, but this story was pretty interesting. Seems the latest trend for us gay guys, and this was news to me, is taking some new med called Tenofovir which is a generic potent form of Viread another anti-hiv drug. I guess some gay men are now taking a dose of this before a night of partying, hookups, and possibly unprotected sex..in hopes it will keep them from becoming infected with hiv. I guess about 7% of gay men admitted to taking an aids medication before engaging in unprotected sex.. in one survey. So far there is not much scientifc data yet on Viread, ( or tenofovir) but some large scale studies are under way.....the story also mentioned at least one West Hollwood HIV specialist who are prescribing this too their patients some who refuse to use condoms, or are in relationships with HIV positive partners. Interesting.

What people risk their lives for.

How bad can a condom be that some people rather risk dieing an early and unpleasant death?
I'm not an expert, but as far as I know HIV comes in several variations, some of which might be resistant to the drug. Doesn't overuse of a drug speed up the development of resistant viruses?

You are correct, Buck. Moreso, one cannot take the time to pop on a condom? If that's the case, then you don't have time for sex. It seems that a pill such as this will give rise to the idiotic behavior that got us into this mess in the first place. Be a whore, just be smart about it!
