We have 65 teams go to the NCAA, another 32 to the NIT and now we'll have another 16 playing in the College Basketball Invitational. We can't get an 8 team football playoff but we can have 113 hoops teams playing postseason games. Too pathetic!

ENOUGH ALREADY!!! blink.gif

How much do you pay the university when their team wasn't good enough to make the NCAA or the NIT?

I give this two years, tops.

It's crazy but it's really not. It's just a minor league tournament that'll mean something to the 16 teams invited that probably have 18-22 wins. It won't even be a blip on the radar screen to the masses that are solely interested in the real 65 team tournament. Let them have their fun.

That's optimistic considering alot of the NIT teams are barely over .500. I'm all for letting them have their fun but the same college presidents who approved this are the same ones who tell us we can't have a football playoff.

Yet many of those .500 clubs are major conference schools, I think this tourney will open up more opportunities for the mid major school who has a very successful season yet gets invited to niether tourney.

Notice the final will be best of three....interesting quirk.

Its interesting that this new group said they will not wait for the NIT to make its picks, so its going to compete directly with the NIT. But I would assume that if a team gets an invite to both, it will go to the more established tournament and this new tourney will end up with a very week draw (as well as embrassment from lots of rejections).....like someone else said, I'll give it two years at most.

You know what would be entertaining would be a reverse tourney with the 16 worst teams playing for the title of "The Worst Team in College Basketball." Single elimination. One win and you go home.

Maybe call it the Caltech Invitational.

Based on this field, they'll be lucky if this tourny lasts for a second year. blink.gif
