I'm going to Austin for my vacation. Any one have any ideas what to do, while I'm there. I'll check out some of the museums, the capital and check out UT. Where's a good place to have a bite to eat, listen to music, have a beer, take a stroll? I know there's a place to overlook Austin, but don't know the exact name or where to find.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I know going to Austin is not as glamorous as say going to Europe or Miami, or even taking a cruise. But it's all that I can really afford. Plus I've got a friend to stay with, so that'll save on hotel costs.

Never been, but always wanted to... It's one of the few places in the US I actually want to visit (and its at the top)

Maybe someday I'll get to go lol

The place that overlooks the lake used to be called "The Oasis". I know it had a fire a few years back, but I'm pretty sure they rebuilt it...not sure of the name today, tho...could be the same...
6th Street is the hangout street with bars and restaurants. Great music over there, too...
Lake Travis is fun...
Surprisingly beautiful surroundings in Austin...reminds me of upstate NY...
I don' t think you'll be disapointed....

Best food anywhere!!

If you like live music, you're in heaven. I can't remember some of the venues but there are so many. Get one of those weekly magazines and see who's playing.

I thought Sixth Street was sort of overrated and hetero-touristy but there is this area close by which isn't as bad, and I can't remember the local name for it. Oh well.

Bring or rent a mountain bike when you're there!

And Lake Travis rocks.
