On Saturday, I am going to a Major League Lacrosse game for the Long Island Lizards to watch openly gay player Andrew Goldstein play. As far as I know, he's the only publicly out active pro team athlete in the U.S.

The game starts at 1pm and is over by 3pm. It's supposed to be a GORGEOUS day. They play in Uniondale.

Anyone interested?

Does he actually play? I watched the LI-Rochester game the other day on ESPN2 for a while and didn't see him in front of the goal.

He's their backup goalie and yes, he does play. It certainly could be that he goes a whole game without playing. But, it'll be good to go out there and support him.

I'd go....if I was in New York frown

Andrew Goldstein's been in one game, for a total of 3 and a half minutes. Their starting goalie, Greg Cattrano, is apparently considered the best in the league. I remember seeing him a couple of times when he was with Baltimore when I was working down there in the summer of 2002. He was very good -- and I'm not just talking about his goaltending. wink Or do they call it goalkeeping in this sport? Anyway, I'm not sure Andrew will get to play very much -- although the Lizards are 1-3 going into tomorrow's game with the 4-0 Barrage smile.gif and might be in danger of not making the playoffs if they don't turn it around. That might lead to Andrew getting more playing time later in the year. So perhaps you should root for Philadelphia tomorrow. wink

Unbelievable game. Long Island went up 8-0 and Philadelphia came back and won, 13-12. Goldstein didn't get any playing time - but, given how their goalie played in the second half, he should have.

You may be interested to know that the Philadelphia Barrage ended up winning the league championship this weekend. So let me just reiterate:
