Synchronized Diving.....the Tandem Performance!
The tandem or synchronized diving events are the most fun, exciting, and crowd pleasing. I don't know if you can, but try to image standing on the diving well pool deck in a giant natatorium, of Olympic proportion (AFTER ALL, this was the site of the 2000 Olympics Swimming, Diving, & Water Polo Events in Sydney, Australia). Thousands of people are watching and cheering for you.
CHEERING FOR YOU!!! You and your diving partner are called to perform your next dives; you climb to the 3 meter springboards, which are side by side, four feet apart; you mount, one on each; you stand ready to walk to the end of the boards, to launch your hurdle.
You and your partner look at each other. To cue your start, one of you quietly counts out loud, "one...two...three...GO". Together in synch, you approach, hurdle, pound the board, spring up aerial, twisting and tumbling as precisely timed and together as you and your partner can possibly accomplish. For the onlooker, it's like seeing double.
What weird for you is, you can see your partner, and he can see you. It's a doppelgänger!
Then, CRASH....you are under water. You surface, your dives were excellent. The gallery of spectators are clamoring with appreciation, clapping their hands for you, yelling, hollering, hooting (hoot, hoot) and whistling. You emerge from the diving well, stand and turn to your audience. Your scores are announced, which instantly appear on full color scoreboards at each end of the venue, running streaming video content.
You can't believe this is you. But it is.
IT IS ALL SUCH A RUSH!
