We're just a couple of days from Super Bowl XLIII. But nary a mention of the game.

Does anyone have any thoughts or predictions?

[b]I am still in shock that my Cardinals are in the Super Bowl. After all those years of 4-12, 5-11, 6-10 seasons, all the players who would leave and criticize everyone from ownership to teammates to fans, all of the bad coaches (Buddy Ryan, Dennis Green), after all the teasing from people who would question my sanity when I said they were my team, to the games I went to at Sun Devil Stadium and had to listen to the fans root against them, not because they were rooting for the other team, just to root against the Cards. The game on Sunday will make up for 21 years of misery and heartache. I will enjoy it immensely because after this season, we might lost Warner, Boldin & Edgerrin James and we might have to wait another 60 years for a championship.

Well, Thursday night the low temp here WAS around 35 degrees.... laugh.gif

Been here all week covering the Bowl, practices and news conferences and there are probably more Steeler fans in this city right now than Buc fans... blink.gif

Both teams so far have been on their BEST behavior and behaving themselves, but then again we still have to get through Saturday night in Tampa and we can remember what happened to Eugene Robinson the night before the game right after he was awarded the NFL Man of the Year Award during the week.... ohmy.gif

Hmmmm! Polamalu?...Warner?...Polamalu?...Warner?...Tough one! Should be interesting though.

heartbreaking.

First of all I'm pissed that LT has not seen one second of game time...

And as much as I admire Benji for his scrambling ability, that hurry-up before the two minute warning in the 4th quarter was completely reckless, unnecessary and they are lucky it wasn't intercepted...

But the best team on the field won. Congrats Steelers on ring number six.

It's heartwarming to know that all of those Three Mile Island babies will now have a ring for their sixth finger...

those TDs where you barely get your toes in should be abolished.

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Classic Maddog!!!

And the children of third world countries will have tons of brand new "Arizona Cardinals Super Bowl XLIII Champions" t-shirts, caps, towels, mugs, etc.

It ended up being a great game thanks to an exciting second half. It didn't look like it was going to be much of a game early on. The difference obviously was the interception return for a TD to end the first half. Had the cardinals been able to keep Harrison out of the end zone, time would have run out and the Cardinals get the ball to start the second half. And Roethlisberger's elusiveness was just amazing.

As for Goodell's proclaiming this game outdid last year's, um no Mr. Commish. This game was exciting but it was pretty sloppy and way to many penalties to be a better game than last year's.

The game was far more exciting than I expected. I tuned in with about two minutes left in the second quarter and watched the remainder of the game, off and on. Way too many flags and dumb penalties.

I wasn't really rooting for a particular team but I guess I leaned more towards 'Zona since they were the NFC representative.

It was kind of a ho-hum football season for me as I never really got into this season.

mdterp01
It was a decent game with a few memorable moments. The interception right before the half, Fitz' touchdown to have Arizona go ahead with a few minutes left, and Holmes' touchdown to seal the comeback. Other than the fourth quarter, it was ok. I'm glad it wasn't a blowout though. Was rooting for Pittsburgh and Mike Tomlin and am glad they won. Loved Tomlin's comment during the trophy presentation. Its 60 MINUTES!! I don't know how many text messages and phone calls I got when Arizona scored late talking about it was destiny for Warner and the Cardinals to win it this year. Well...DESTINY DENIED!!! There was way too much time left and its been Pitt's M.O. all year to come back in a tight game late in the fourth quarter.

P.S. Jennifer Hudson's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was FABULOUS!!! I hope she is doing ok given her personal tragedy. That was just remarkable.

Thought this years game was as good as last year's, but last year's will be remembered more for the drama of the undefeated season going up in smoke.

Int at the half turned out to be gi-nor-mous.

I luaghed my tail off at Mike Gandy for his three holding penalties. I've heard that way too many times up in these parts when he was a miserable lineman for the Bills.

They could have tossed Harrison in the second half for his antics on the personal foul on him.

Six for the Steelers, nice job on their part. Good ownership is a big part of why they are what they are.

The league really lucked out when the Steelers scored a TD instead of settling for a FG that would have tied the game and put their OT rule under severe scrutiny. Imagine if it had gone to OT and the game ends with one possession? I guess maybe it would have forced the league to really reevaluate the OT process in the offseason.

It was the 4th quarter that took this game from being ordinary to one that got everyone's attention . I would not say if was played better than last year's, especially with all the penalties, but nobody could know for sure who would win until the lat play and that doesn't happen often in Superbowls. oslisthberger My thoughts are:

Fitzgerald is a beast, anything that touches his hands are caught.

Roslisberger, for all his average skills, does one thing well, and that is being a clutch player. I believe he now has 18 4th quarter winning drives in his short career.

I gotta admit, old man Warner still has it, give him just a bit of time in the pocket, his passes are spot on accurate.

Finally, who would have thought that rushing the ball would have been nothing more than an afterthought in deciding the outcome of the game. Wasn't it one of the lowest yardage rushing games in the Superbowl?

Roethlisberger proved to be a quarterback of the first caliber. With the Steelers behind, he proved to be decisive, unlike his last performance against the Seahawks. And he's a quarterback that fits Pittsburgh's working class image. He doesn't have the "pretty boy" looks. He's tough. And he's plainspoken. Kudos to him!

Try as I might, I just could not get into this game. For me the biggest highlight was Jennifer Hudson coming out of seclusion to absolutely NAIL the Star Bangled Banner......sistuh OWNED it!

And is Ben Roethlisberger really only 26? He looks 40!
fantomas
The end of the game was very exciting. The highlights, though, were the hot players: Fitzgerald and Polamalu (the hair!!!), Holmes, Harrison, Ward, and on and on. Fitz was swinging it too when he ran in that go-ahead touchdown. (I'd think he'd want to protect a treasure like that, but what do I know?)

I'm glad for the Steelers, Tomlin, the Rooneys, Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania. The Cardinals still have another few decades to go to expiate for their horrible treatment of fans in Chicago and SAINT LOUIS. And Kurt, God didn't let you down, your team's penalties and the better play of Pittsburgh did.

I thought Jennifer's voice was every bit as good as Whitney's from 1991. That being said, it has now become standard procedure by the producers to have the artist lip-sync and to a pre recorded track the the NFL requires be produced in advance should anything go wrong.

That's what happens when one spends so much time on the carpet from being sacked as much as he was this season. ohmy.gif

Go back and look at the transcript from the Commissioner's news conference that was held on Friday in Tampa; the overtime question came up (as it does EVERY year) and he said that he and the competition committee are happy with the current OT rules and think that they work well. He said they may be "tweaked" a little but that they will essentially stay they same. Sorry for the bad news. blink.gif

I heard Goodell's comments. Speaking about the Super Bowl ending in OT in the hypothetical is alot different than it actually ending in OT. And the way this Super Bowl was played, the team that got the ball first may not have actually gained any yards and just sat back and waited for the defense to commit a couple of personal fouls to get into FG range and win the game. tongue.gif

I don't believe they'll change the rule. But I sure wish they would. I don't care if only 50% or 30% or 2% of the teams that get the ball first win without the other team getting the ball...nobody should win without getting the ball IMO, especially in the Super Bowl.

I thought the game was outstanding - the best defensive play in the history of the Super Bowl, two wild TD catches (guess that ballet training comes in handy) to swing the lead to both teams in the 4th quarter, and the worst team to ever make the NFL playoffs (at least according to one of the NBC announcers) loses; perfect! It wasn't the best game ever played, but it was fantastic.

I'm a Patriots fan, so obviously this year's game was more enjoyable than last year's, but I am really struck by some of the comments on this board. Has everyone forgotten the blowouts of the 80s and 90s - all those games where the outcome was clear about 30 seconds after kickoff? I will take the last 10 or so Super Bowls over those of my younger days any time. Really since the Giants/Ravens game back in 2001 we have had a string of great games (of course many of them featured my Patriots, so I may be biased) and this year's was another.

I really thought, with the 100 yard interception run back to end the first half, that this would be another blowout snoozer; thankfully the crappy team, which should never have made the playoffs at all, found enough strength to make it a real game.

The only problem is that we have 6 months until the pre-season - sad.gif

IMHO, two of the greatest Super Bowls of all time have been this year's and last. Nice.
