Blind Item: Visiting athlete headed to Boston gay bar

Boston Herald blind item... First off, a tale of two jocks: Both were in town to play our local heroes but they found two very different ways to spend their off hours. The first drank a bottle of vodka then stumbled over to a strip club. The second headed straight for The Ramrod - the city's most flamboyant gay bar! -- Boston Herald

[b]Let the guessing begin.......

Well the only local sports team in action recently would be the Red Sox, who just had a homestand against (most recently) the Mets and the Blue Jays. David Wright? A boy can dream.

Or, they could be talking about the Magic or the Hurricanes, but I can't imagine that a team in the playoffs would be doing anything than eating/sleeping/performing.

Most likely, this took place in the head of whoever wrote the blind item.

It doesn't say when this supposedly happened. Not "recently" or "last week" or "some time in the last year." That narrows it down to approximately 70 visiting teams and maybe 1600 athletes. rolleyes.gif The only thing that would make the blind item interesting is a few clues upon which the readers can base their guesses.

Ramrod? Flamboyant? laugh.gif hahahahahahahahahahaha laugh.gif

Those airheads at the Herald gossip column don't have a clue about gay guys. A few years ago, one of them asked me if I figured Theo Epstein was gay, since he was (then) still single at age 33. Give me a f**king break.

I'm sure a lot of visiting athletes in a lot of cities visit a lot of gay bars. So what? Hello, Boston? Massachussetts? Same-sex marriage is legal in your state. Gay people are no longer shocking or scandalous. Let a guy (pro athelete or whatever) drink a beer in peace.

That this is a blind item that can't even be linked says something about the homophobia in our society as opposed to the rest of the developed world.

I mentioned almost in passing in another thread that several members of the Australian cricket team ended up at a gay bar and the link still exists as far as I know.

Maybe one day our society will be equally jaded by these things.

Edit to add: Just checked that link to the gay pub story and it no longer works. Here's a current one to the same story.
