Full Version: Ft. Lauderdale Guest House Ideas

OK, I know I've posted this before but couldn't find my thread from last year, so I'm starting anew.

Each year I take my kids down to Florida to visit their maternal grandparents in Naples, usually in mid-April. Naples is gorgeous, but it is kind of a snooze in terms of gay interest.

Last year, I decided that one of these trips I was going to leave the kids in Naples and take some time for myself, and head to Key West Ft. Lauderdale for a couple of days of fun, sun and (hopefully) sin. My health problems this year (rare form of thyroid tumor removed successfully) really made me think that I have to seize the day.

Due to distance, Key West is out of the question, so I've decided I'm doing FTL this April. I'd really love to check out a nice guest house (preferably walkable to Sebastian St. beach; I'm not overly interested in the Wilton Manors clubs, but will have my own car if I decide to hit them). A clothing optional pool is essential. I want the place to be clean, not a bath house masquerading as a hotel. To be honest, though, I'd like a smidgen of sleeze about it -- not skankiness, but some playful friskiness among the patrons. I typically like to socialize with other professional, in shape guys around my age (42), give or take 10 years. Most likely, I will be visiting over the weekend (Fri-Sun).

I know this sounds like I've got an awful lot of demands, but what I just laid out is the ideal. I'm willing to compromise on a few points. Money really isn't a factor. I've done some online research and came up with the following list. Has anyone stayed at any of these (or know much about them)? Thanks!!

Pineapple Point (may be just a little too "precious" and is not near the beach)
Elysium
Windamar
Royal Palms
Palm Plaza
Worthington Guest House.

The Royal Palms is nice. The Grand, which is much larger, is also a nice place. The most elegant there is Flamingo - Inn Amongst The Flowers but they don't have a spa. They are all located within walking distance from Sebastian St. Beach. They are all close (within a block or two) to the new Hilton on the Beach which has a great fitness club.

I've seen the rooms at the Elysium and the Royal Palms, and they're both really nice. I'd stay away from The Worthington - friends of mine checked in there last year, and when I saw the place I made them come stay with me instead.

Munson: what was wrong with Worthington? I heard its adjacent property (Alcazar) is kind of old, but reviews of Worthington on tripadvisor seem pretty positive...

Elysium night be my top choice right now.

Stayed at the Grand last year - very nice. The front pool requires clothes, but the back jacuzzi area is cl. optional. I'd say if the Spa is important to you, then the Grand has everything.

I enjoyed my stay at the Elysium last year. Great mix of guests, clothing optional pools and very friendly staff.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm thinking Elysium is my top choice (mostly for proximity to the beach), but Pineapple Point is also a possibility. Grand sounds nice, but I really want a fully clothing optional experience. Sounds trashy, I know, but I love skinny dipping and sunbathing naked. cool.gif

Flamingo/Inn Among the Palms seems awesome, too.

Thanks for the advice!!

Thanks for the ideas. Once again, real life intervenes and I'm probably going to have to put off this vacation once again. Man, does life ever let up??
