Current leaders (all still playing their second rounds):

Darren Clarke -6
Mike Weir -4
Phil Mickelson -3
Sergio Garcia -2
Paul Lawrie -1
David Toms -1

They are the only guys under par at the moment. Tiger finished the first round at +4 (hoping that's a question at next year's convention!!!) but has picked up 3 strokes in the second round to move to +1. Hope we have an exciting finish on Sunday.

Play was halted due to darkness. Hot Canadian Mike Weir has the lead at -6. Only three others are under par, Darren Clarke -4, Mickelson -2 and Ricky Barnes -1. Tiger is at +2. All still have slightly less than half of their second rounds to complete Saturday morning.

Weir (-6) holds a 4 stroke lead after the completion of the second round. Clarke is at -2, while Mickelson and Barnes are -1. Toms, Faxon, Olazabel, Lawrie and Singh are E.

Tiger just barely made the cut finishing the second round at +5. Among the notables missing the cut are Scott Hoch, Colin Montgomerie, Justin Leonard, Bernhard Langer, John Huston, Padraig Harrington and David Duval. In fact Duval shot 79 and 83 for a combined 18 over par! He tied Jack Nicklaus and only beat Arnold Palmer by 4 strokes. I wonder if vertigo is still impacting his play?

Other notables: Cherles Howell, Nick Price and Ernie Els +1, Rich Beem +2, Sergio Garcia, Nick Faldo and Retief Goosen +3 and Davis Love III and Fred Couples +4.

Holy crap! Tiger is -6 so far on the day and is -1. Weir still leads but has dropped to -4, so Tiger is only 3 strokes out of the lead!

I am hoping that Mike Weir plays well tomorrow so he gets tons of TV time. Weir is probably the best looking golfer on the leader board - although I think David Toms is good looking too. With a little luck they will both play well and maybe we will get to see some lines to let us know - boxers or briefs!

So right now Mike Weir and Len Mattiace are tied. Mattiace is finished and played on of the finest, most composed final rounds I've ever seen at a major. But how about Mattiace and Weir just settle this thing with a shirtless wrestling match! biggrin.gif Whoever wins, we'll have have our hottest winner of a major EVER!

Congrats to Mike Weir. First Canadian and first lefty to ever win the Masters. But poor Len Mattiace! He played an amazing final round. Any time you have a playoff where one guy has to sit around waiting for the other guy, he ends up losing.

I liked this comment by one of the CBS commentators on amateur Ricky Barnes. He said: "Without a hat you can see everything about him...face like a naughty angel." (I'm not completely sure that that is a direct quote because I wrote it down a few moments after he said it, but I think it is. I thought it was kind of funny.)

Also cute Mike Wier, a BYU alum, has a nice web site here: mikeweir.com

Did you see Mattiace's press conference following the playoff? In this age of seemingly pre-packaged, almost robotic professional athletes, seeing him unable to control his emotions was refreshing and riveting. There he was, having shot the round of his life in his first Masters appearance since '88, and the tears were flowing freely. That round--and the playoff--obviously was emotionally draining & it was good to see an athlete release that in front of us.

Mattiace was soooo cute blubbering the way he did.

Really refreshing because it was so real. The man had lost his PGA Tour card for three years. To be able to come back and win his event last year and then play like that on Sunday at the Masters was like the Kevin Costner character in Tin Cup. Hope Mattaice is around for a good long while.

is it me, or does the ubiquitous picture (see espn.com) of tiger putting the green jacket on mike weir, look like a picture of tiger putting the green jacket on tony blair?

when i first saw the picture, i thought what a busy, multi-talented man blair must be -- co-hosting a war, spit shining bush's, ugh, shoes, doing the simpsons (woo hoo! i'm gonna meet homer!), and winning the masters too! busy week, indeed.

where will he turn up next? roland garros, peut-etre?

Ricky Barnes is a STUD......GLooking Stud...

Okay He finished 21st...kissed away $72,000 because he's not a pro yet...look at all the mainstays he beat-Faxon, Price, Couples,Garica and Stadler. Please come to the Northwest.

Too bad he missed next cut off by 0ne stroke... so he's gotta earn his return....

Just saw Mike Weir's head at the local Sears. Seriously.

Mike Weir made an appearance at the Sears store downtown to promote the Mike Weir golf accessory line and sign autographs. Naturally, a HUGE crowd due to his Masters win yesterday. I could only see his head if I stood on a lawnmower (the appearance was in the sporting goods/hardware department).

M. Weir is supposed to put in an appearance at the Leafs game tonight. That should add extra fire to the crowd. Go Leafs!

I saw somewhere once what the Masters winner gets besides the huge check and the hideous green jacket; it's something amazing like 10 years of exemptions to the Masters, a PGA card for 3 years etc. It really is a major deal.

Although I'm glad Mike "Anybody But Tiger" Weir won--and he's gorgeous, sure--I felt really bad for Len Mattiace. He's exactly my type, looks wise, but man oh man did he choke away the win. As soon as he hit his tee shot from 18 I buried my head in my hands because I knew he was cooked. But he came back well; GVF brings up a good point about Len having to wait around. You could tell that he was just a bundle of nerves; his shots on the playoff hole reflected that. His shot from the rough is what killed him; a little closer and he makes the putt. Oh well; good for Len Mattiace and I hope the $600,000 he won will come in handy.

I can't wait for the next major, which I think is the British Open.
