Considering the lack of graciousness exhibited by certain Olympians, the snowboarder, Tyler Jewell, is quite refreshing. Though he didn't medal (in fact, he lost in the first round) he offered this during an post-race interview: "It's an honor just to be here. I feel like the Olympics are something that are really special at a time where the countries are supposed to lay down arms. We're sportsmen and fighting through our sports, not weapons. It should be a time of peace and if I can do that for my country, that is a total honor."
As part of his uniform, Jewell wore a red bandana in tribute to his former roommate, Welles Crowther, who died 9/11, trying to rescue people trapped in the World Trade Center. "He went back in and tried to bring people out safely. He became known as the guy in the red bandana. He died with honor and anything I can do to remind people of him is a good thing."
In my book, Tyler Jewell is right up there with Joey Cheeks; they should be the athletes the press focuses on, not Davis and Hedrick.
