Full Version: The Adam Morrison Tirade

Okay, I saw this only on tape, not live, but from my vantage point and what I read in the paper and from what the radio jock guys were saying this morning, it looked sort of cheesy. I mean, what the holy hell. And when the guys from UCLA came over, it looked like he sort of expected someone to come over and pick him up and comfort him, and then after the game he sounded sarcastic in "thanking" the UCLA player for comforting him, as if to say my own team wouldn't even come over cause they're not good sports. Wha? Explain.

You totally misinterpretted what happened Frank. You mean what happened when the game was over with, correct? Adam paid the player from the UCLA the highest compliment possible, and said he really appreciated what they guy did. In fact he went so far as to say he didn't have to do what he did and what he did do was "bigger than basketball". A very high form of compliment from where I come from. biggrin.gif

Hockeytom, as a Bruins supporter, I agree with your assessment of what happened. The Bruin in question is Aaron Afflalo. Regarding the game itself, I still can't believe that the Bruins actually came out on top--the second half told the tale.

Yeah, Morrison came away with a ton of respect for that player as well as the UCLA team Adam. The consensus up here from what I am reading early on anyways, is that, that was the last college basketball game that Morrison will play. Time will tell for sure. Until then good luck to your UCLA Bruins. They certainly have my support now as a west coaster. biggrin.gif

On a slightly off-topic note, does anyone believe in the "Sports Illustrared" curse? It's the curse where whenever a sports figure or team shows up on their cover before a big game, that team or individual loses. Personally, I don't believe in such things. However, after I saw The Morrison Meltdown, I decided to check my mailbox, and what was waiting for me? The current issue of SI, with, guess who, Adam Morrison on the cover.

Things that make you go "Hmmm?"

It wasn't cheesy, it was heartfelt. From today's LA Times:

Interestingly, one of the first people to lift him up was UCLA guard Arron Afflalo. Then Bruin center Ryan Hollins, all 7 feet of him, went over to help Morrison to his feet.

It was the ultimate show of respect.

"I just saw him laying there in tears a bit," Afflalo said. "I just felt for him a little bit. He's a great player. He had no reason to cry, outside of the fact he's a competitor and wanted to win. He's going to have a great career. He should definitely keep his head up."

Morrison didn't know he was being lifted up by Bruins — at least not at first.

Later, after he gained his composure, he would reflect on the gesture.

"That's just a sign of obviously a great program, and great people," Morrison said. "They had enough guts as a man to come over in their moment of victory, pick somebody off the floor. If I could thank them I would.

"That's just a sign of, you know, great people and great players. That's more than basketball."

Full article.

I have an issue from a few years back that details the SI jinx and all the past occurences. It's quite a pattern.

I don't know if you can blame the SI jinx on this one since there were six different covers. However, if Wichita St., Florida, Mason, and BC go down in addition to Gonzaga and Bradley, then I'll agree with goyanks and illini. biggrin.gif

It seems to be a real curse; that and when Corso picks your football team to win. Were they both created by the devil?
Boltergeist
What Morrison did last night I saw the same as what happened with Darius Washington last year in the C-USA final, missing the last 2 FT's when 1 would've sent the game to OT and both would've put Memphis in the NCAA's. With all the press this year about Gonzaga's failure to reach the Elite 8 since '99. It was SO close for them and to have it ripped away like that.

I'm surprised the Bruins still pulled it out. When the refs waved off Collison's shot after a foul and he missed the 1-and-1, I thought that that was going to take the wind out of their sails.

...as compared to earlier in the game, from the AP writeup:

QUOTE
Morrison beat UCLA's defensive stopper, Afflalo, with a one-hand runner in the lane on the first possession and talked trash as well, yelling \"Let's go Afflalo!\" late in the half as if he was looking for a bigger challenge.
When UCLA stole the ball in the final few seconds, with still enough time for a final shot to stay alive, Morrison was already ready to cry. The whole team sagged, really. As I said last night: they choked.
Adam
Though I saw last night's games as a Gonzaga loss rather than a UCLA win, it wasn't just a choke. They had built a solid lead playing a specific style of play and then, for some bizarre reason, decided to change their style of play. It made no sense: why fix something that wasn't broken??

Wichita St.--DOWN
Boston College--DOWN

The curse lives!!

Speaking of emotion, seems like Morrison isn't the only emotional player. This is what makes college basketball special.
