It's interesting. You'll find every one of the gay bars in San Antonio actively follows the Spurs. One even has a section dubbed the "Baseline Queens" in a play on the AT&T Center's Baseline Bums. I don't know if other cities follow their teams as much as San Antonio does. I found that Dallas and Houston were hit and miss.

I'm certain that it helps that the Spurs are the only pro team in town....

been to their new arena, a nice and somewhat unique place....would've been nice if they could have put it closer to the downtown core.

It really shouldn't matter if they were the only team or there were more teams. Even Dallas Cowboy games are sometimes hard to find at the bars in Dallas. Now I only have Texas perspective so I'd be really curious how well gays in other cities follow their teams. I've heard Denver has a good following.

Regarding the location, I agree it should have been closer. The county cut a deal with the Spurs and now we have an arena that's in the middle of ... oil tanks and warehouses? Beautiful arena but you have to travel to any decent places to dine out.
