Didn't know where to place this thread but I admire the athletes who always found a way to win so I'd like to hear other guys' thoughts on who always found the way to win. I guess who you might nominate depends on your age. My thoughts are Joe Montana and Magic Johnson as two of the greatest when the game gets tight. Who comes to mind for you?

In a small team sport like basketball I would want someone like Michael Jordan or Larry Bird taking the last shot to win a game.

In a sport with larger numbers like American football I would want players like Marvin Harrison who delivers consistently without showboating or as much recognition day in and day out, if I were a coach. It makes it much easier to plan strategy around him.

Not sure I know enough about soccer to pick anyone since we don't see enough of it here for me. But a goalie would almost certainly be the position I'd choose from.

In an individaul sport like Tennis I would probably pick someone with a lot of drive like Martina Navritalova.

Joe Montana....

Here's one for you, Robert Horry....how many bleeping times has he been the one to make a big shot in the clutch even though he was never one of the NBA's superstars.

The unsinkable David Ortiz.

I always was impressed about how clutch of a player Kirk Gibson was. He does have a few of the most memorable home runs in my memories. He was a player that embraced the pressure.

Tiger Woods, the best finisher in sports. Near unbeatable in playoffs and when he has the final-round lead, ungodly streak of making the cut, plays his best in the most important tournaments. The only blemish on his resume is the Ryder Cup, which he probably doesn't care much about.

Mariano Rivera is the best reliever ever and the game is on the line when relievers are in. Tom Brady has accomplished alot in his brief career at a time when it's harder for powerhouse teams to stay intact than it once was.

Mariano Rivera is a great choice. When the game is on the line, you can see in his face how much he loves being on the mound. No fear.

And there's this female tennis player who retired in the 80's who was pretty good when it counted too. smile.gif

I'd include Evert as well if we were doing this for each sport. I hate the Yankees but I can't fault Jeter's performances in the clutch.

Maybe we should do the opposte of the thread: who are the chokers? Jason Sehorn and David Justice are two I think of as non-impact "star" altho the NBA is chock full of them as well.

Derek Jeter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
