After 13 years and with only two weeks away from the 2006 edition, the organizers of Whistler, BC Canada's LGBT ski week have cancelled all activities without explanation.

Here's what organizers posted on their web site:

Dear Altitude Guests,

It is with our greatest sympathy and regret that we cancel this year's Altitude celebration. Due to last minute difficulties of which we could not overcome, we have been forced to cancel this year's program. Please accept our sincerest of apologies for those of you that have already made travel arrangements. We have instructed our credit card processing company to refund your ticket purchases. These refunds should be forthcoming in the next day or two.

Does anyone know what happened?

I've never been to a LGBT ski week before. "Altitude 2006" was going to be my first. I'm spending a pretty penny on this event -- so are seven of my friends. This event usually brings in 4000+ people.

What a crock!

I'm going anyway. At least, the skiing will be great.

The Altitude organizers could have at least left the forum up on their site so that we could organize apres ski getogethers ourselves -- without them. That's just common courtesy considering how they're putting us out.
