I have never even heard of this orginization, but I sure intend to look out for some more of their photos. Universiade has a complicated history and, though it calls itself the most important international games after the Olympics, certainly doesn't seem to have gotten the press of it's older sibling.

The wrestling pictures alone make it worth following. Especially those like the third down on the right which I couldn't direct-link because of the parenthesis in the URL. I wonder who the guy in the background is calling and what he's saying. Maybe he's talking to the girlfriend of the wrestler in red and telling her where her boyfriend has his hand right now.

Some other pics thatI find are linkable and likeable:

That seems to be a popular place for wrestlers to put their hands

Is he listening for a sign that his opponent is giving up?

Matching bulges should score extra points in synchronized diving

This guy deserves extra points just for smiling

I had no idea what these games were either. Then I went to the link and found that Buffalo hosted the games in 1993.

These games may be more commonly known as the World University Games, if that rings a bell at all.

The World University Games do not get much publicity in the United States, which as a country has only held the Games once since it began in 1923 (as BlueRaider said in Buffalo in 1993). I had only heard of them because I got a bunch of very colorful postage stamps in 1993 with the World University Games in Buffalo on them.

I swam at the '91 games in UK.
