http://www.skinet.com/article/competition....m?alias_id=7330 QUOTE
Boulder, CO, Aug. 6, 2001--Multi-talent Jeremy Bloom (Loveland, CO), an all-state player with a scholarship to the University of Colorado, decided Saturday to put college football on hold for a year while he takes a shot at earning a trip to the 2002 Olympics as a moguls skier.
\"I finalized my decision today. I've gone back and forth all week,\" Bloom, 19 and a promising wide receiver, said following Media Day activities for the CU football team where he announced his decision. The reigning Nor Am moguls champion, he returned over the weekend from a U.S. Ski Team training camp in Chile...undecided about which path to take.

Edited to change "will compete" to "hopes to compete," as the next post points out.)

He's VERY WELCOME to come to Utah as far as I'm concerned, but to say he WILL BE in the Olympics is a bit of a guess since they haven't even selected the team FOR SURE yet. The team will be announced after Gold Cup (on the Olympic Course at Deer Valley, Dec. 31).
On another note, the Buffs web site lists his stats as 5'9" and 165. I think he'd be safer in freestyle skiing!

Whoops. You're right. He will *attempt* to compete in the Olympics as a skier.

Men 2-3-4 in Steamboat Moguls
Steamboat Springs, CO, Dec. 14, 2001
Canadian Stephane Rochon and defending World Cup champion Kari Traa of Norway were the World Cup moguls winners Friday in the Sprint U.S. Freestyle Grand National, but U.S. skiers tightened the race for Olympic spots with eight top-10 results, including a second-place finish for hometown hero Travis Mayer and a second podium for Jeremy Bloom (Loveland, CO).
"I wasn't expecting this. I was overjoyed when I just made Finals," said Mayer, who stayed at home and, as he headed to the mountain, stopped at a local restaurant (The Shack) for his normal pre-event breakfast of huevos (eggs) rancheros with a side of rye toast. "I'm sure it'll sink in later."
NBC will broadcast coverage of the Sprint Grand National Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. EST. Three 19-year-old Coloradans - Mayer, Bloom (who moved up to the A Team with his second top-3) and Emiko Torito (Denver) - led the way to eight top-10s for the day.

A 5-9, 165 lb. WR is within the realm of imagination. My imagination, if no one else's.

I will be seeing Jeremy tomorrow at Deer Valley... they have been having "Olympic Preview" shows here on the local NBC affiliate every weekend for a while now and they "featured" Jeremy last night. He is a real hottie. They showed his summer workout routine at Park City (shirtless and in shorts, running, lifitng, jumping, sweating) and he has a very nice body.
The female reporter noted that he will probably be the "heartthrob" of the the games, at least for the American Team if he makes it. Having seen Bode Miller and 16 other slalom hopefuls up close and personal just today, I noted that MANY of them are WORTHY of a look...

NY Jets Wayne Chrebet is listed at 5'10", but that measure has to be a bit generous.

OK, boys... back on subject! Jeremy didn't win at Gold Cup (he was in first place after the qualifying round). Hopefully he will do a little better in the rest of the pre-Olympic stuff and be on the team. He sure was fun to watch!

No topic is so old it can't be reopened.
Jeremy Bloom owns a freestyle skiing camp? At nineteen, I was barely making minimum wage.
http://www.npr.org/programs/specials/olymp...020101.ski.htmlHe's so cute!

Model Behavior

Jeremy, show me your Tommies!
What was the name of that Texas QB who became a model? I know we discussed him here.
As always, I find it ironic that the only people not allowed to make money off college FB are the players themselves.

twin58, that Texas QB goes back quite a few years and I don't remember it being discussed here but I'm fairly certain his last name was Cherry....Mike Cherry, I think?....any of our outsporters with good memories of Longhorn football care to confirm that -- also, any update of this stud's modeling career after he left the sidelines?
As I recall, the representative from the modeling agency first spotted the Texas QB on a Saturday afternoon game on ABC after Cherry had been sacked late in the game, took off his helmet in disgust and the ABC cameras showed a closeup of the cute QB's face....maybe Cherry should give a percentage of his modeling earnings to that defensive lineman who sacked him (or the offensive lineman who missed the block) because, without them, his new career might never have happened.
As for Jeremy Bloom, I hope we get to see him BOTH in all the upcoming Tommy ads and catching TD's for the Colorado Buffaloes next season....after seeing features on this stud during the Olympics, the more we get to see of Jeremy the better.

gamecock - we did diccuss this on one of the old pre-UBB boards (remember those days of board "Chernobyls")...
Your recollection was very close - it was Marty Cherry who was the player/model in question. He ws recruited in '95, played a bit in the '96 season (not enough to earn a letter) and left before the '97 season. He would have bee about two years before Major Applewhite's arrival.
Now Mike Cherry was a QB who played at Arkansas and then Weber State earlier in the 90's. He has played in the NFL and in Arena League. I think he was 3rd string behind Kerry Collins and Jason Garrett within the last couple of years. I'll go out on a limb and say that the two Cherrys are related, but whether brothers, cousins or what, I'm not sure.....

I had the last name right, but I couldn't remember the first name. Thanks. Now who's got pix of him?

IIRC we never found a pic last time we looked (there's always the posibility he uses a different name for his modeling assignments).
If anyone saves all of their copies of Sports Illustrated, I faintly recall the short article (probably back in 96 or 97). It was in the "front" section (the shorter articles before the cover story). There WAS a picture there ..... anyone have the isue (and a scanner)?

Jason Garrett, now thats someone we haven't heard much about on the board.. or anywhere else. Too bad cause I think that receding hairline and red hair, along with a the boyish grin, is supersexy.
He pings my gaydar too - single, thirty-something happy to be playing second fiddle or third..anyone heard anything about him. If it's bad news burst my bubble gently.

wurm - your recollection about mike cherry being related to that cutie marty cherry is correct - they are brothers. i remember reading an article( ny times?) a couple of years ago profiling mike as a backup ny giants qb and they mentioned his brother as a former college player turned model.

thanks for the clarification Wurm....after checking through my "archives" I actually DO have the page from S.I. with the brief article and pic of Marty Cherry (he's shirtless in the pic but you can only see the upper portion of his torso, not unlike the recent Pat Burrell pic in the Philly paper)....I've been getting S.I. since I was about 3 years old I think (one of my late aunt's used to work for Time-Life and would renew my subscription every year as a kid and I've never cancelled it -- sure beats the hell out of that trash called ESPN the mag.) -- anyway, I've saved a few issues over the years but more often just tear out pages or articles of interest and, sure enough, I decided to Cherry pic was worth saving (can't imagine why? )....however, I unfortunately do not have a scanner (yet) and am not sure I have the cajones to have a pic of a shirtless football stud scanned at a "professional" store.
I'll look into getting a scanner soon, though -- any suggestions guys on makes/models/prices?
