LONDON - Athletes who have undergone sex change operations will be eligible to compete in the Olympics for the first time under new rules being finalized by the IOC.

When I first saw this topic name I thought this must be another article from The Onion. Since I couldn't access the article because I'm not registered with the Post, pardon me if I don't have all the facts.

Wasn't East Germany sending transsexual athletes for years? wink

Anyway, while I don't see a mass number of men having sex changes just to win Olympic gold, I don't think this is fair. Had Renee Richards been a better trained athlete and tennis player as a man, she would have been very successful when she joined the women's tour because she was so much more powerful than the women she played against back then.

Male records in most all track and field events are substantially better than the women's. A formerly-male basketball player with equal training and coaching would dominate any biologically female players. All that said, I doubt we'll see an influx of transsexual athletes so it probably won't be much of an issue.

Transsexuals in Olympics? IOC ready to give it a whack

I'm pro-transgender people, but this is a farce. A MTF trans track or field athlete, for example, who's also been taking an undetectable designer steroid (like THG), would have a grossly unfair advantage over a biologically female competitor. Why not just make the competitions unisex, and give a platinum medal to women who can win them?

Could someone explain to me exactly how a Female-to-male transgender operation works? Where do they get the, you know...
fenwayguy
They use the, you know... rhymes with Dolores.

Oh please, not the c word. I'm getting sick. Do they enlarge it to even try and resemble the real thing?

I got in trouble within my Transexuel e-group because I used the wrong terms.

I am a Female Transexuel. That means I was born male and will have the SRS very soon. The only thing thats Trangendered about me is..... the grouping of all Trans people together as Transgendered...I think.

As the hormones kick in I lost my Male like strength and developed more female body likeness. I am not just a Bloke dressed as a Woman, and some of the chatter here disapoints me to that extent.

Please be happy for us as this will help us who are truely Transexuel be accepted into the world we wanna live in. We share some issues with teh Gay and Lesbian world but thats all most of us share ...some issues.

the good thing coming out of this is we'll be seing lots of quadruples in female ice skating figure...

Lets just dump all the chic sports anyway... not like anyone watches them... or that anyone really cares...

Maybe this year with the trans-whatever's being in, the IOC can have drag shows inbetween all the events? Just an idea to spice thing up just a tad.

Maybe you haven't heard -- that's called The Gay Games. Happens every four years.

Dare I say a typical gay mans attitude towards male to female Transexuels. With support like this its no wonder some Governments cant figure out if we are truely suffering a medical condition or just Drag Queens when they look at our rights.

Thanks Phillyfan.

Not necessarily. I think that's just PF being his usual self.

And...that's the whole point. You certainly don't see many FTM's pushing the issue. As supportive as one can be of the MTF community, you can't argue that they don't still have a physical advantage over women-born women, no matter how many years since they've transitioned.

p.s. Tess, Glad you're here! Please say hello to my good friend Sue-Ann Post if you should happen to run across her there in Melbun. smile.gif

You are quite welcome!

I just think that we dont need to be this PC...

If you get an operation like this, well one of your considerations should be... maybe i can't be an olympic star anymore...

Chic sports are already boring and dumb for the most part (check out women's hockey if you dont believe me), let alone throwing some dude/chic into it. They would dominate. We've already proven this in Golf...

I say the only sport for ladies should be wrestling, in mud. Otherwise it's just boring garbage.

Well maybe there should be softball for the lezbos tho... Is cheerleading a sport?

If there was cooking and cleaning involved in the olympics, then the chics could dominate...

Whats funny guys, or maybe it was something not many of you realize; is that there are already transgendered athletes in sports. An example is that of the world ranked mountain bicyclist MIchelle ( forgotten the last name) who was picked to represent Canada in several events. Her selection set off a firestorm up here.

I'm assuming Michelle is a male-to-female transexual. Is Michelle competing against men or women? If against men, fine. No possible physical advantage. But if against women, sorry but it just doesn't seem fair to me.
canadalaw27
Sorry it took me a while to respond, George. Away from the computer.

Michelle is actually competing against women and is nationally ( maybe internationally) ranked as such.
Tess
As she should be, M2F transsexuals do lose strength during transition and most of the Muscle is changed to fatty tissue as the transition happens.

I am disapointed in some of the guys responses toward us being allowed into the Olympics. Don't get me wrong the best I could do is backyard badmitton I am no athlete. This will as it has already done go a long way to show the world we are a group of people that once having the SRS we are complete in our new sex... well almost its not quite that easy.
