A member of the Greek Olympic team (thanks to dual US-Greek citizenship), competing in the "skeleton" event, is a medical technician who was helping after the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center. He has markings on his sled to pay tribute to paramedics, EMTs and Greek nationals who died that day. But it's possible that he may be told to remove the tribute by the scandal-ridden International Olympic Committee.

His heroics go far beyond athletics

"If they would have asked us, we would have asked him to remove the names," said Emmanuelle Moreau, a spokeswoman.

She said the IOC had discussed the possibility of this situation arising before the Games because of similar requests for such displays and decided they would not be allowed. However, New York Rangers goaltender Mike Richter, of Flourtown, Pa., is wearing his regular NHL mask during the Olympic hockey tournament. Richter's mask includes a huge image of the Statue of Liberty and has "Rangers" clearly visible on the mask.

Moreau said wearing the Statue of Liberty was akin to displaying the American flag. The Rangers' logo was something the IOC was not aware of, she said.

Richter wore the mask for all three periods of Saturday night's nationally televised game against Russia.

I saw that. What's up with that?
