22 months later, the IOC finally decided that Beckie Scott of Canada deserves the Gold Medal in cross-country skiing from the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. She originally finished third, but was upgraded to silver, and now gold, as the first and second place finishers were disqualified.

Russia's Olga Danilova won the gold while Larissa Lazutina took the silver in the five-kilometre pursuit, but both skiers later tested positive for darbepoetin prior to another race.

Darbepoetin, a drug used to help patients with chronic kidney failure, boosts the production of red blood cells that carry oxygen to muscles.

Beckie Scott is expected to get her gold medal in March, a good 2 years after the Olympics.

I guess it was fortunate that she was on the podium as a bronze winner at the time. Imagine if she had finished out of the top 3 and then was awarded a medal. I assume there'll be some ceremony when they give her the medal but it won't be the same.
